The Green Party Evolves

I'm going to come out. It's time to be honest. I vote Green in European elections. I know... I'm a Lib Dem member. I feel ashamed! But the main reason I vote Green in those elections is because of the candidate at the top of their party list in the South Eastern Constituency: Dr. Caroline Lucas. I heard her speak once at some concert in Mote Park, Maidstone that my hippy mother took me to, and since then I've been a constant political admirer of her.

Recently she has been campaigning to change the structure of the Green Party leadership. Until now they have not had a leader, but instead have 1 male and 1 female Principal Speaker (the female speaker is... Dr. Lucas!). But she, among many others in the party, wanted to bring it in line with most other parties and select one leader for their movement. And their campaign has been successful!

I do admit I think it's actually fairly sad. The Green Party was the one party known for being a little different, and now they are just "mainstreaming" themselves to get into power. Which is the business of politics I suppose but still... idealism is far more attractive than realism. Shame.

Talking of idealism being more attactive than realism...

Bugger... I just realised I'm not in the South Eastern Constituency anymore... looks like the Lib Dems now have all my votes!
