Well I thought I was obsessive with my collecting! Some heartless bastards go around stealing wild bird eggs to get their collecting kicks. Jesus. Can't they just collect coins or comics like the slightly more normal people?
I am forever amazed by the arrogance of people when it comes to nature...
Once, back in my school days, my entire class got put in after school and lunch time detentions because someone had farted and wouldn't admit it. We all, quite correctly, thought that not only was the teacher petty but the punishment did not fit the "crime". Well who would have thought that a judge could be just as a bad? He put an entire courtroom audience in jail with a $1500 bail just because someone's phone rang and they wouldn't admit it. Justice in action!!
And a flag redesign idea has been proposed in which the Union flag would incorporate the flag of Wales. Personally I think having a Dragon on the Union flag would be a little silly so I'd hope consideration would be given to just incorporating the white and green of the House of Tudor colours from the flag.
I was liking that video until I realized that it was more Ron Paul propaganda. I hope you are one of his blind supporters and are taking the time to find out what he *really* stands for.
ReplyDeleteHe's not for gay rights; he wants to leave it up to states to decide which in many cases would take away many of the rights we've fought so hard for over the years.
He wants to get rid of the IRS. No more federal taxes sounds great until you realize your sale tax will have to be 75% along with increased local, state, and property taxes. The things we take for granted, public roads, highways, police, postal service, etc, aren't paid for with fairy dust.
He wants to get rid of the EPA and FDA. Great! We all know corporations are so responsible when left to their own devices!
I could go on and on and on, but I think you get the idea.
Ron Paul is NOT a revolution, he is a libertarian. He ran for President in 1988 as a libertarian even. Libertarianism is nothing new. Timothy McVeigh was a libertarian.
Ron Paul will be responsible for putting another Republican (not himself) in the White House in 2008 just like Ralph Nader cost Gore the election in 2000.
I hope that's what you realize you're supporting.
I meant I hope you are NOT one of his blind supporters. Examine what he really is proposing. If you still want to support him, fine. Just make sure it's an educated decision.
ReplyDeleteAs a neutral party (not being American and all!) I am not supporting anyone (although I will admit to a deep hatred of most Republican candidates... Loving Dennis Kucinich though). I just liked the video and it's clear distaste for the media's obsession with irrelevancies.
ReplyDeleteHowever...
As a social libertarian (someone who believes no Government has the right to dictate how I live my life, and who I live it with... i.e. a big supporter of privacy and individual rights) I find the comment "Timothy McVeigh was a libertarian." extremely offensive. I'm all for readers dissing my beliefs but don't equate me to a terrorist.
Blind hatred is just as dangerous as the blind devotion to Ron Paul that you are against. Your country needs a little less hatred right now. Perhaps tone down the hate of libertarians and focus on dissing Ron Pauls policies.
I agree his stance on homosexual rights leaves a lot to be desired and also the fact he seems to want to swap the power of the Government for the far worse power of the corporations is pretty disturbing. He is not the solution to your countries problems, but that doesn't mean everything he says is wrong.
You're right. I was out of line with the Timothy McVeigh comment.
ReplyDeleteI also forgot that you're not an American.
I guess the reason I added the line about McVeigh was to give the same impact as a slap in the face. I meet so many Ron Paul supporters who are in a trance under a hypnotic spell. I worried you were one of them.
I don't hate Libertarians. Not at all. Libertarians often believe in restoring the freedoms of the Constitution which is something I firmly support. My beef with Libertarians though is sometimes I think they go too far. Not everything should be decided by a free market, which Ron Paul often preaches. Greed is a powerful force and I don't think corporations should be allowed free reign. After all, there was a reason the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) were created in the first place.
I also don't think that some social changes would have come about if Libertarians would have had their way. For example on gay rights, Ron Paul thinks it should be left up to the states and local communities. Can you imagine if we did that with the civil rights movements of the 1950-60's? I bet blacks would still be segregated in Alabama if that were the case.
The reason I speak out so strongly against Ron Paul is that he is misleading people. His supporters put up signs like "End the IRS" and "Out of Iraq Now." Well, as much as I hate the Iraq war and want it to be over, even I can admit a immediate pull-out could have catastrophic consequences. We must plan our withdrawal in a way that will keep both our troops and the people of Iraq as safe as possible.
Anyway, that's just my 2¢. Now how about that weather, huh?
