Taking Pleasure In The Small Things

Ian Paisley is to resign as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party and thus as First Minister of Northern Ireland.

Oh I can't tell you how pleasant that news story was to read. How the words practically danced across the screen as I read them. The homophobic bastard is to leave his position of power and maybe the people of Northern Ireland might actually give moderation a chance at the next election now he isn't there reminding them of the Troubles.

He failed to save Ulster from sodomy. Thank the heavens.

  1. Whilst I share your sentiments about the Rev Ian Paisley, I'm not planning to celebrate just yet awhile; he is by no means the only visceral homophobe in the DUP and it will presumably be someone from that Party who becomes the next First Minister of NI. It wouldn't be so bad if all the arch-homophobes in the DUP were from an older generation like Paisley Snr, but there are several (apart from his son, of course) who are equally vociferous on the matter from much younger generations. On this matter at least, if on few others, one must be grateful for the moderating influence of Sinn Fein in the NI administration (I do feel a little strange writing that), as they generally have a better record on matters affecting homosexuals, at least in recent years.
