So the votes are in, the decision has been made... the act representing the United Kingdom at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade is...
Andy Abraham.
I am deeply disappointed with this result. Michelle Gayle (the runner up) should have won. Her song was far more likely to win the ESC than his. But Andy was voted in, probably due to his extremely high popularity from the X Factor. Alas.
But no sour grapes... he is our candidate. Let's offer him all the support we can.
Bring it home!!!
Michelle you were robbed!!
I am glad Andy is the winner. I think the effort over many years by Britain to find a 'good ESC song' has been so patently unsuccessful - I am not sure there is even such a thing as a good ESC song anyway - that I think we should just try and pick a song which is pretty good on its own merits, sung by someone who knows how to sing. I think the candidate song fulfils both these criteria. Whether it has any chance of winning has very little to do with its merits, however, and a lot more to do with the rivalries that govern ESC voting patterns.
ReplyDeleteErm..well it's OK but it's no "Boom Bang A Bang."
