Sorry for my recent language but the Liberal Democrats (my own party!) are starting to piss me off. Simon Hughes is bisexual. You'd expect me, being highly prejudiced in favour of homosexuality, to being cheering for him. I hate his guts. I hated him before he came out, and I hate him more now.
This twat's election campaign in 1983 is infamous for the high level of homophobia directed towards the Labour candidate (and my own personal hero) Peter Tatchell. This, and the fact people I know who know him say he is a horrid person, set me against his leadership bid.
But for him to now come out and admit he has had homosexual relationships in the past... IT MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL. And he gives his story to the Sun. Of all the flipping newspapers it would have to be the News of the World's sister paper.
Sure I was bit disturbed today when BBC Breakfast painted his bisexuality as some kind of (their word) "scandal". It sure is a scandal... but not because he's bisexual but because he is yet another Lib Dem hypocrite. Charles Kennedy lied to us, the Lib Dem "shadow cabinet" lied to back him up, Mark Oaten lied to his family, and Simon Hughes lied to his constituents. You don't have to tell people you are gay if you don't want to that's your business... but you do have to make sure you don't do anything that conflicts with your lifestyle... such as tell off judges for having rent boys (hi Mark!) or launch homophobic campaigns against openly gay opponents.
My membership is up for renewal... do I jump the sinking ship? Or do I head down the street to Greenwich party HQ and lend a hand at the pumps?
Menzies Campbell... please save us from the hypocritical poofs and lushs!!!
Here's an opinion from Florida.
ReplyDeleteWhy, why, why...? Why do we have to let them in? I am sick and tired of these wanksta fools who out of the blue say, "I'm gay," "I'm bisexual," "Please don't blackmail me."
The admission is only made because somebody is about to go to the press with the shocking truth.
Let's have some kind of qualifying exam to keep the riff raff out, or at least make them wait throught a test period, say 6 months. Too often these Mary-come-lately's are not good examples for our children and political leaders to see as representatives of gay life and culture.
Now if that ginger prince of yours should make a claim for it...that's a whole different matter.
Ken
I think you should 'lend a hand at the pumps'. The Lib Dems need all the help they can get at the moment, and British politics will be the poorer without them.
ReplyDeleteKen... I agree. simply minced my words just to avoid being too militant! ;op
ReplyDeleteSorry Ken but us Brits couldn't stand another American getting one of our crown jewels... which means Harry's mine by default... :o)
It's lend a hand at the pumps time..For myself, I'm voting Huhne first preference ,Campbell second
ReplyDeleteIf you looked around you would find plenty of evidence that there was no homophobia in the Bermondsey election when Tatchell lost. You obviously haven't looked around very deeply or you couldn't make the comments you have.
ReplyDeleteSimon Hughes is a decent, warm, kindly, caring and passionate man who has done more for Liberalism in the last 20 years than almost anyone else.
I suggest you get along to a hustings meeting before you do anything else. Actually meet Simon for yourself, and put some of your points to him.
Then, perhaps, have the courage to admit you were wrong ...
If you can't be bothered, then you shouldn't keep posting such mindless drivel.
See this article in which Simon Hughes says "I apologise for any part that I wittingly or unwittingly played. Nothing should require people to suffer the sort of abuse and indignity that he [Mr Tatchell] did in that campaign."
ReplyDeleteThat is from the horse's mouth. Now sure given that he has been slightly devious before ("Are you gay?" "No I am not" true in a way but not the whole truth Mr Bixsexual!) I can under stand you being a little reluctant to believe him again. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt this time. I think a decent apology like that shouldn't be knocked.
It sounds to me you know Mr Hughes personally, and I can thus understand you being upset by my comments. However please note it's very bad form to leave anonymous critical comments on people's blogs.
And when you say he has done more for liberalism than anyone else of late, please explain? Do Paddy Ashdown and Charles Kennedy not count?
" I regret that in a campaign, actually run often by agents and organisers, the candidate does not have nearly as much say as perhaps they should have, but I take responsibility".
ReplyDelete"I have never been comfortable about the whole of that campaign, as Peter knows, and I said that to him in the past . . . Where there were things that were inappropriate or wrong, I apologise for that.".

So not sure why anonymous states there is plenty of evidence proving there wasnt any homophobia when hughes has publically apologised for the act.
