The Flaws Of First Past The Post

AV is not a perfect system, nor is it my preferred system, but it does help eliminate some of the worst features of first past the post. This video shows you exactly what they are...

I made my own case for AV here

The FPTP system is even worse in the USA (I'm assuming you're British) because of unequal voting power between states and that the system of winner-take-all works twice for presidential elections (a plurality of votes wins all the electoral votes of a state and a majority of electoral votes wins the office). I'm a huge fan of proportional representation myself, but it sounds like the proposed alternative vote system is more like the voting system in France (a second election if there is no real majority)?

  2. Yes, I think it's actually known in the USA as "Instant Run-Off" elections. It's similar to France's second round but is instant and automatic thanks to preferences.
