Jae Kay Is Away

I'm back on 8th August. Until then visit some of my links of the right, and I leave these for your enjoyment.

Adam Rickett. He will always have a special place in my heart. Mmm...

WEIRD! Filipino prisoners singing Sister Act songs...

From one of my fave movies Hocus Pocus (what can I say, my tastes are eclectic [rubbish]). Not only does it star Bette Midler, the wonderful Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker... it also has my childhood crush Omri Katz! How can it get any better??

(You didn't think I'd leave you without Charles Dera did ya?)

One More Sleep

I know that in my head my holiday doesn't begin to my normal work starting time on Monday (that's when I realise I'm on holiday anyway!) but today wasn't as bad as I thought.

I headed into town this morning and bought some clothes at High and Mighty (Edgware Road) and got myself some Euros. Sadly the trips to and from were on bloody packed DLR and tube trains. :(

Got home, got some personal insurance before Jim and I headed out to the Local. Mum, Debbie Debs and Leigh soon turned up to join us. They were leaving their car with us while they went off to see Scissor Sisters at the Dome.

Had a lovely day in the beer garden there drinking and chatting and telling silly stories. Saw them off on the DLR and after finishing our wine at the local settled down with Jim at home (via a crazy destructive dash round the bedroom trying to find my passport... )

Holiday has now been brought forward to tomorrow so that's one extra day with out me I'm afraid!

Christmas Dog

He's quite happy that Jae is getting a break from work, and just hopes that Jae is less stressed upon his return. He can't take any more beatings.

4 Hours To Go

I don't know if can make it through the next 4 hours at work. Really... honestly... I am getting so stressed due to a certain not to be named thing.

It truly is awful. I actually had to go away from my desk for a few minutes to place my head in my hands and destress.

Please let these next 4 hours pass so quickly and let me go!

A Day In The Life Of Jae

Jae awoke that morning at half past five. He stretched out and grabbed his mobile. Thank the Lord, he thought, half an hour until he needed to get out of bed.

He dozed the half away and far too quickly his alarm went off. He fell out of bed and into the front room. With BBC Breakfast in the background he logged on to the internet from his laptop, carefully (cough) balanced on the arm of the sofa.

Bugger, he mentally exclaimed, the service is down. Annoyed at not getting his fix he went to the kitchen and made himself some breakfast... Weetabix. Mmm... After that he had a wash, brushed his teeth and ironed his shirt. After a few minutes of catching up on the news it was 10 to 7 and time to head to the station.

Greenwich station isn't too far away from his flat so he made it there in good time for the 07:04 to Charing Cross. He bought his ticket from the machine and assumed his position on the station.

The train arrived and Jae was pleased to note that one of the seats near the door was free and settled in for the journey listening to Feast of Fools on his iPod. The journey was uneventful, although Jae did wonder whatever happened to that cute gay guy who used to catch the train with him.

London Charing Cross. Ah... Jae's home from home. So many adventures began here. Nowadays... it's where he begins his walk into work. Dodging some free newspaper people he descended the stairs at the side of the station and wandered down Villiers street (named for a lover of Queen James), under the railway bridge and up and across one of the Jubilee Bridges.

His walk took him along the river Thames past the London Eye, County Hall (topped with Stormtroopers.. scary...), the Houses of Parliament and then into Vauxhall.

He got to work to find the shutter on the door down and two people from the fourth floor huddled outside saying it didn't work. Using his magic key code he soon had it up and preceded to regret his decision when he had to share the lift with the two of them smelling of smoke.

Work was uneventful and Jae really wasn't able to speak about it anyway. Home time couldn't come too soon and Jae barely made it to lunch with JP as it was. When home time did arrive Jae dashed to Vauxhall train station and caught the 17:10 to Waterloo. From there he wandered to Waterloo East trying to avoid the immensely slow people and was disgusted to find upon arrival the train to Greenwich had been cancelled.

Jae proceeded to Southwark tube station and caught the tube to Canary Wharf and then changed to the DLR with some immensely smelly people. Sheesh.. he thought he smelt bad, these people took it to a new level!

He got home and was about to settle in when Jim phoned from Deptford where his train had been evacuated due to fire. Jim invited Jae to the Local for dinner, and Jae happily accepted.

Just another day in the life of Jae

France In Less Than A Week!

Today was not at all pleasant at work and I'm glad to be home. I have such a massive headache, and am feeling very sorry for myself...

But... Jim, Ian and I are heading off to Brittany on Monday for a well deserved holiday! We are catching the ferry from Dover and driving down. Honestly, I feel happier with each passing second counting down to that blessed day. And we aren't flying so my normal pre flight worries are not annoying me. :)

I love the French...

I am only going for a week but I've got two weeks off work. Mmm... the very thought... So relax Dear Constant Reader, you'll only be sans Jae for 1 weeks.

1 week of pain au chocolat eating, 1 week of attempting bad French and 1 week of hearing hilarious "Ros Bof!" jokes. Oh the French do make me laugh...

Kallie's Birthday

After work today I headed out with Jessica from accounts to Kallie's surprise birthday treat. Her boyfriend Dan contacted me a week ago to organise it.

Sadly the Victoria line was closed so we took the overland to Waterloo and walked from there into Soho. Headed to Mildreds and meet up with a friend of Kallie's called Jen. The three of us got a table and waited for the birthday girl and her boyfriend to arrive... she really was surprised! Yay!

The food at Mildreds was gorgeous. It's a vegetarian restaurant and I had mixed mushroom and ale pie with huge chips and mushy peas. Divine.

Haven't wandered along Old Compton Street for a while. It doesn't change... he he... love that street.

Anyone Know Any Good Podcasts?

Sadly over time the podcasts I used to listen to have disappeared or update so infrequently that I've had to resort to listening to music! Geez...

So I was wondering if you, Dear Constant Reader, might have any suggestions?

For your listening pleasure I present I Hate You by Josh Woodward introduced to me by the now defunct Gayborhood Radio cast...

Yoinked from Poetx

I haven't done a meme in years! So I've taken the opportunity to nick one from PoetX... here goes!

List 8 facts/habits about yourself
Post the rules at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed
Tag 8 people and post their names, go to their blogs and leave them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and ask them to read your blog.

1 - I like Diet Coke. I mean... I really like it. I like it to the point that people have started quoting health facts at me about it in the hopes of changing my guzzling habit. Sadly I don't think they realise... I know the facts. And I don't care. Mmmm... *glug*

2 - I worry constantly in public. I worry about how others perceive me, I worry about getting in others way, I worry that my trousers might fall down, I worry that that umbrella might catch me in the eye. I can never feel comfortable around strangers. Self conscious barely covers it. If you see me grasping my coat closed or fiddling with my mobile, it's because I'm a nervous freak

3 - In a similar vein... I always wear my coat. My coat is my blankie. It always makes me feel better and if I'm not wearing my coat I feel completely exposed. I still haven't recovered from the time my denim coat got thrown away. I loved that coat. :(

4 - I love sci-fi and fantasy. Comic books, television, movies. Count me in. I go in cycles of obsession... Star Wars one week, Star Trek the next, X-Men once a year. Buffy; always.

5 - I hate crowds. Partly this is to do with point 2 but mainly it's to do with my height. I can see over everyone else and I can usually see 1) what has caused the delay and 2) how to fix it. Sadly no one else can and I can only watch as the crowd proceeds to collapse into chaos and pushing while I weave my way down the clearest path. I HATE THAT.

6 - I work in Vauxhall. If you can imagine somewhere with open air urinals, homeless people lying collapsed on the street and the faint whiff of rubbish you have almost experienced what it's like. For a Monday morning just add drunken queens wandering through the streets off their face after being chucked out of the early morning gay clubs. It's a lovely place.

7 - In my life I've lived in 2 mansions (read, homes for the mentally disabled young person... don't worry... I was a son of the staff), a monastery, a caravan, a council house and a bed and breakfast (plus the occasional normal house).

8 - I am a creature of habit. I quickly learn the least stressful way of doing something (i.e. where the empty carriage is on a train or where the most obscure cash machine is away from the queues) and I stick to it. I get most annoyed if things change.

So that's my eight things... what's yours? (I'm not cruel enough to tag ya!)

The Only Gay Eskimo

Nottingham Visit

Today I headed to Nottingham for a meeting with a supplier. To avoid the morning rush I took a pleasant walk up from Charing Cross to St Pancras. I'm amazed how close things in London are.

I got a Midland Mainline train up, in first class. It was so nice and quiet (and civilised!). I must travel first class more often. I got to Nottingham and remembering where the taxi rink was I was at the suppliers in minutes.

Now for a guy who used to get scared of going into shops on my own I was amazed to find I wasn't the least bit worried about handling a meeting all by myself. Amazing how much more confident I am nowadays.

My meeting lasted all of 30 minutes, including small talk. It was over so quickly I had plenty of time to have lunch with Emily and her boss (on the suppliers account of course) before catching an early train back home. Managed to get a whole book read on the journey there and back. Result!

I was minding my own business reading on the DLR on the way back when three Asian women got on and stood next me, and then began to talk about my height and laugh about it in Hindi. HOW RUDE! I wanted to kick 'em. 1) it's rude to talk about my height anyway, I don't go around to people and point out their little quirks and 2) really... talking in another language isn't going to disguise what you are talking about if you make hand gestures and point at me... I'm tall not thick.

Whatever happened to manners? Oh and some Italians did the same thing this morning with "molto alto" mentioned a lot. Sheesh guys...

I've got a real thing against Italians this week (sorry to any Italian readers!) and a real thing for... Daniel Carter...

First Class!

Work excursions are fun!

Nottingham

I'm heading home already.

Blog Update

So... of late I've found my urge to blog waning slightly. I've realised this is due to a lack of focus. This blog, which started out as a personal diary, has become bloated and undisciplined.

I've decided that all political commentary and opinion is banned from come back to what you know. Should you, Dear Constant Reader, wish to keep up with Jae's thoughts on the world today feel free to visit Walk This World With Me.

Remember to take posts over there with a pinch of salt. I'm prone to exaggeration to make a point and can be very one sided. Polite comments and criticisms are always appreciated though!

I'm getting rid of some of the rot and bloat in the sidebar, and some of you who read this on a feed may get some old posts resurface as I am removing certain names and replacing them with initials to protect certain peoples privacy (MT).

This blog is six years old next month, and I think it bloody well needs to get in shape for it's birthday... a bit like this...

Who he? I hear someone cry... altogether now... CHARLES DERA!

Big Brother UK: A Major Complaint

Why, oh why, is the British Big Brother so rubbish??? I mean it's about as interesting as watching paint dry. You feel like Big Brother tried to find the most irritating people in the world and put them into a house thinking that'd make good telly.

Why can't we have a Big Brother like CBS' Big Brother 8? Or one like last years Big Brother Australia?

View the evidence for yourself! See this post on Towleroad and the following video...

Then you've got (NSFW!) Jamie from last years Aussie BB. MMM...

So listen up Davina! Next year we don't want a bunch of unlikeable women and horrid men... we want bloody gorgeous young people who get naked a lot! Understood?

The Local

Completely empty! But doesn't it look nice?

The Weekend

Saturday Jim, his mum and I headed to Lewisham market and had breakfast in the local 'Spoons. I was shocked by the disgusting state of Lewisham High Street. What on Earth is the borough council up to?

After that we came back to the flat to meet Ian, Emily and Hannah. We took them out to Jim's mums hotel and then had a takeaway in the flat whilst watching the Chronicles of Narnia.

Sunday we had a McDonalds breakfast and headed out to the National Maritime Museum. It was, as always, cool except for all the bloody foreign tourists hogging the fun things and being very rude. Especially the Italians. Sheesh, learn some manners people!

The kids headed home and Jim, his mum and I headed down to the local where they spent the time arguing with each other and winding each other up. Fun fun...

Another Night In The Local

Yesterday afternoon Jim's Mum arrived for a weekend visit and Jim, his Mum and I all meet up at London Bridge. We got her settled in at the Devonport House, a clean if uninteresting hotel, before catching a drink at the bar (4 quid for a pint!!!!) and headed to our local.

On the way we met up with a neighbour and soon enough our other neighbour appeared with his friend (who had just been to Celebration Europe and paid 85 quid for Mark Hamil's autograph... rip off!).

Drunk too much... :(

Jim and I walked his Mum back to the hotel before wandering around nighttime Greenwich... and found a bakery open! At 11pm! A bakery! Never before have I seen such a wonderful sight. Doesn't anyone else think that is a little random?

Not half as random as this video...

I Can't Take This Anymore

Breathe. Just breathe and relax. That's what I spend most days telling myself. People just stress me out. Hell is other people.

So... I need a solution. I find it unlikely that I am going to be able to change the world. The behaviours that annoy me (selfishness, illogical thinking, slowness, thoughtlessness) are pretty much part of the human condition.

When I was younger I got around without stressing out by berating myself. I just kept telling myself I was the idiot, I was the fool and most other people in the world were better than me. Sure it might have depressed me but it kept me from feeling stressed all the time. People were doing things differently to me because they knew better than I did and it made sense to them because they were vastly more intelligent.

I can no longer fool myself into believing this. All humans (myself included) are idiots. I truly cannot comprehend how some people can't understand things that are so clear to me. For instance: why can't people understand that standing to the side of the doors when the train stops helps the flow of people. It's so simple.

Maybe somethings are just because I'm tall. I can see how a crowd is working and who is holding it up. I almost always realise the crowd has formed because of one or two acts of extreme stupidity followed up by people not using logical thinking (slow people to one side, fast another).

So I need to change. I need to stop worrying. I need to relax. I find it hard to constantly worry about other people and how they perceive my actions when no one else seems to bloody care.

I must be in the wrong. I can't be the only person who is sane. Any suggestions on how not to worry about others?
