One Of Those Days

When I woke up this morning I came into the front room to find Jim worrying over Mr Gibbs broken vivarium light. He gave me a look and told me it was going to be one of those days. He was not wrong!

We decided to take the car up to Charlton Reptiles to get a new light and some food for Mr Gibbs. The cars front wheel looked a little deflated but we decided to go anyway and stop off at a garage to top it up. At the top of Point Hill, just behind our house, we realised it wasn't just a little deflated... it was flat.

Bobby Rossong Yoinked from Queerty

So lots of fiddling around later we managed to change the tyre... and as we attempted to turn the engine on to power our emergency tyre inflater it conked out. Much fiddling around later, and discovering not only was the car broken but the tyre inflater was too, we got the car working again and managed to get it home.

Abandoning this route we decided to see if Wickes had the light we needed. The light we needed was a bayonet, but Wickes only had screw in ones. Aha! thought Jim, I'll just buy a screw in light fitting... but all the light fittings they had were bayonet!! Joined up supply there, me thinks!!

Next plan: go to Lewisham by DLR and then walk down to Ladywell to a pet shop there. Jim doesn't have Oyster and my Oyster isn't topped up and they don't do DLR returns any more!!!! Deciding we'd rather walk then pay 4 quid for a ticket for 3 stops, we headed down into Lewisham, stopped off at Spoons for a much needed top up and finally got to the pet shop. Surprisingly they had what we needed, which was concerning in itself, and we headed back (via Spoons again). Jim suddenly had an urge for jam pudding (don't ask) so we headed to Tesco's... just after we'd crossed the road by the railway bridge and were heading passed Maggies we heard a thud and screams from behind us. Some girl had just been hit by a car that promptly drove off! The police were there in seconds so we moved on quickly...

4 hours after we set off... we returned home with a light and food for Gibbs and beer and chocolate for ourselves. Stress-o-rama!!!

Christmas Time Is Here!

For the most part I've been able to spend the last few days being all smug at having purchased all my presents online. I hate shopping at the best of times, but I absolutely fail to understand the urge people have at Christmas time to engage in the torturous consumerist ritual of Christmas shopping.

Sadly, I had to pop to Tesco's in Lewisham today. Tesco's in Lewisham gives me a headache at the best of times, but today... today was awful. It was bad enough doing the shopping but the queue at the checkout was where even Jim "Nothing To Worry About, We're Not In A Rush" Niven lost his temper. We were third in the queue. Not bad I hear you think. Alas, first in the queue were two women who had three trolleys full of food. They couldn't quite understand the concept of one loading and one packing and instead one continued to shop whilst the other had a nice chat with the checkout girl. They were there for ONE HOUR. ONE HOUR just to checkout 3 trolleys of shopping. ONE HOUR!! Stupid people..

Anyway... I've got a meal with the family in the pub and a quiz tomorrow, Christmas Day in Hythe and then should be back home sometime on Boxing Day. So I probably won't be blogging between now and then and thus I want to wish every Dear Constant Reader a very Merry Christmas!!

Yuck... Happy Holidays. How very dull. I think next year we must all eradicate such silly phrases... it's Merry Christmas or nothing! :p

Jae: Volume 3, Issue 7

So I had my first interview for a new job this week.

Thursday I headed up town to purchase a new shirt, and on the way attempted not to kill anyone. It was a difficult task with fellow British numpties mixing with slow tourists on Oxford Street but eventually I made it to the Edgware Road High and Mighty and quickly purchased what I wanted including a £49.99 tie. I've been informed by Jim this was actually not a tie but a “rip off”. Nice to know. ;)

On the way home I just happened to pass by a comic book shop, Orbital Comics, and popped down the stairs to take a look. It was awesome, just like the comic books I remember from when I last suffered a comic book addiction... as the smell of old comic books wasted up my nose I rummaged around the new comics section and purchased a few... Wonderful.

Friday, interview day. I headed down to Queens Town Road station and discovered that Vauxhall has competition for grimmest south west London location. Found the place I needed to go easily (what did we ever do before Google Maps??) but I don't feel my interview went well. But hey, I've been out of the game for three years and it's only the first interview I've been too. I now have a few more lined up for next week.

After that I headed home and took over from Jim on “cleaning the house in readiness for the annual visit by Jim's Mum” duty. He headed off to Gatwick airport to pick her up as I discovered that there is indeed a floor in the bathroom. Who knew...

Jim's Mum arrived and we went down the local and had a bite to eat and few drinks out in the garden. New barman (for me anyway) at the local who is.... gorgeous. Sure he's just a baby but given he's working behind the bar I'm assuming he's more than legal.

Saturday: Jim and I went down the local to help move a pizza oven from the patio to the first floor kitchen. Mark was there, plus Gus to lend a hand. Now, as always when it comes to any sort of manual labour, I felt fairly useless but did help a little bit. There was much pulling on ropes and picking up of heavy ovens... but it was all done in the end.

After this we headed down to Lewisham. Other than when we go to visit the topless car wash (unofficial) I'm never so keen on visiting Lewisham. Everyone walks so slowly there and because it was raining they all carried my arch nemesis... the Umbrella. Oh how I wish I had some sort of acid spray which when used would burn away the plastic and leave me able to safely walk down a street once more..

Anyway, after finally getting home I settled down here to update you, my Dear Constant Reader, with a much delayed update.

P.S. If Jim and his mother don't stop arguing about who is paying for things then I may have to commit suicide....
