The Weekend That Wasn't

There's never enough sexy black guys on this blog... thankfully Spartan's gladiator colleague Tornado came along. Yum.

Not been a very good weekend for a variety of reasons almost all related in some way to money and the lack of it. One day, Dear Constant Reader, I shall be writing this to you from my sun draped villa in some exotic locale surrounded by pool boys and hunky gardeners. But that day is quite far off at the moment...

Is It My Gayaversary Tomorrow Or Thursday?

1998. 10.25am. Just after Media Studies. I saw HIM. The Sixth Former. That's when I made my decision to accept, embrace and nurture my sexuality rather than continue to despise and fight it. My diary from the time is long lost, thrown out in a teenage fit of depression (I think that was just after my Mum found it). So the question is... is my 11th gayaversary tomorrow or Thursday??

I know it was either a Tuesday or Thursday of that week (as that's when I had Media Studies) and I thus know it was either the 24th or 26th.. but other than that? Nothing... and I'm the sort of person to whom dates are so important, so it sorta annoys me...

Let's just say it's the 26th. 11 years of gay Jae. Happy times. Here's to 11 more (and some, if I'm lucky!)

Is It Really Only Saturday?

Feels like a Sunday which will mean I'll have a pleasant surprise tomorrow!

I feel totally restless right now... like I have a ton of stuff I should be doing but... don't.

Can't relax. Grr...

Aww... Our Lord Spartan looking lovely as always.

Instant Karma

I can't help it. That naked photo of Spartan from Gladiators is addictive! That smile. It actually makes me weak at the knees. Literally... not figuratively. That is no man, that is a god.

Farewell Charles Dera, there's a new man in my imaginary life. You've been good to me, never complaining as I yoinked pictures of you from various pages of the internet and never offering payment of any sort. I appreciate that. But you know, straight porn is just so unattractive.

Now... time to start *cough* obsessing over someone new! Yay!

Maybe Jim shouldn't have bought me more than one double of JD and coke... hmm...

Jae Has Died. And Gone To Heaven.

Yoinked from Facebook

Words escape me right now. Except... Spartan. Gladiators.

'Nuff Said.

Slowly Goes

Thanks to a direct debit mishap this week up to yesterday has been a little... tough. I have to say food never looked as nice as the TWO jumbo chocolate croissants I had for breakfast yesterday after a week of "one meal a day" days.

Work. Work is stressing me out right now... nothing runs smoothly there and I'm constantly surprised as each new disaster presents itself to me. But Darkblade has been sighted a couple of times which has cheered me somewhat, even if he isn't really a proper crush but instead just the best of a average looking bunch of men there. But I have applied for a permanent position. I'm a glutton for punishment.

I've now officially finished all the books bought for me at Christmas. Which is a lot of books. I think I am now well prepared for a zombie apocalypse though. Thanks zombie book buyers!

On the television front: Your Country Needs You (the new Eurovision act selection programme) has settled into a boring, but more respectful, talent show format. Yawn.

Demons has not improved, and has an ever decreasing amount of naked flesh from Christian Cooke. Let's face it, it really is the only reason most people watch the show.

Total Wipeout, however, is a Saturday night gem. As a Ninja Warrior fan I was a bit worried it would be total crap. But some of the contestants have been so bad that it has been unerringly funny.

But of course top of the television stakes this year so far is, of course, the second series of the new Gladiators. And I say this as someone who considers anything shown on Sky 1 must have any good points halved just for being made by the Evil Empire (News Corporations other name). And I don't even just like it for the half naked muscular men getting rough with the contestants... but...

Spartan from Gladiators is my belated man of 2008 and my early nomination for man of 2009. He is gorgeous! Some have complained about having his legs wrapped around them on hang tough. Trust me, I would not be complaining...

Plus Goliath has added a little extra "shit my pants he's so big and scary" factor to the show this time round.

New Gladiator Goliath

Hot in a bearish sort of way. I wouldn't say no anyway. Although that isn't saying much is it really... :D

But 6'6"? That's not "Goliath" that's a midget!!

Christmas At The Folks House

So what have I been up to? Not much really. I did do a quiz on the 16th at the pub. I thought the questions were quite easy but alas no one else seemed to agree and the highest scoring team only got just over 30 out of 60. Let's just say: there was heckling, and it wasn't very popular. Oh well...

Plan B is a little better now there's a couple of people there I can talk to but still not the ideal place to be. Perhaps it's only 100 times better than my last job after all :p

For Christmas I got: LOTS! Thanks Zoe and Lee for the book!! Add to that... oh I don't know about 20 more books, and a couple of DVDs and a HAMPER (yes, a HAMPER) of Guylian chocolate and you'd have one very happy Jae. But Jim, as always, has to go and beat everyone else. Not only did he get me the Special Edition of the Love of Siam (including postcards, photos, the soundtrack and a bonus feature of Mario Maurer in the bath...) but he also bought me the wooden Father Christmas toy from the movie!! It was meant to come with the special edition but production problems stopped that happening... so instead Jim went out of his way to find it and very sweet of him too. :D Happy times.

Christmas has been good so far, and I hope yours has been too.

New Years Resolutions??? Hmm... MUST LOSE WEIGHT! Honestly. This time I mean it. You guys simply have to start being meaner with me! Send me hideous amounts of emails calling me fatty or something ;)

And finally after being absent from our televisions for some months I'd forgotten how gorgeous and beautiful a speciman Spartan from Gladiators is so for all us Gladiators fans here we go:

Don't you just want to have his babies?

Gladiators: UK Vs. US

So the first series of the renewed Gladiators finished on Sunday with a Legends Return special (old Gladiators vs. new Gladiators = FUN!). Now they've started showing the American version ("patriotically" named American Gladiators. Does everything need to be called American? Do the viewers not think it a little patronising that the networks think they might think the show wasn't made in America??).

What a difference. And not a good difference.

The new Gladiators on Sky1 is fifty times more exciting (and less annoying) than the American version.

Firstly... the dark studio on the American version with godawful lighting and too much smoke puts me in mind of a dirty back street club rather than a TV show studio where they actually want people to be able to see what is happening. They have set up about 5 billion (a conservative estimate) cameras around their arena (and on their contenders) and like to flick between them relentlessly so you never really get to see any of the "action"... which brings me on to my second problem with the show.

It's slow. Powerball has no power. They treat it like American Football rather than a bloody Gladiator event. It's soooo boring compared to the fast paced British version. They called Duel, "Joust" (not to be confused with the British Joust event) but they can use their sticks to POKE each other. Hardly a feat of strength. In Earthquake they are allowed to do WRESTLING moves on each other. What a cheat. I don't know why, I suspect the angle of the cargo net might have something to do with it, but by the time the contestants get to the cotton reel (which has a ROPE on it. Cheats.) on the Eliminator they are so tired that they then proceed to drag themselves slowly around the rest of the course. The Travelator is longer than the British version but...

THEY HAVE ROPE ON THEIR TRAVELATOR!!

Yes, a rope. Shockingly rubbish.

The Gladiators themselves? Useless. Absolutely useless. They are all muscle and no athletic ability. Can't catch the contenders on hang tough. Can't win at duel. They need better Gladiators. Also... our Gladiators are so much more attractive.

And the contenders. So arrogant. I couldn't even begin to feel sympathy for them.

And, let me just say, thank God for John Anderson as our ref....that man has more charisma in his little finger than the American ref.

Our Gladiators is a cross between exciting action, good athletic showmanship and a little bit of cheese. Their Gladiators crosses total cheese with terrible camera angles and not much else.

Go Sky1! The American version proves Sky1 has got things right.

Interlude Three

Jim has started an email "relationship" with Spartan from Gladiators.

Jae is not amused, but uses the opportunity to shamelessly post a picture of the most handsome man on Sky1 (when the competition is Ross Kemp, that might not mean much but still...).
