Eurovision: Jae's Decision

Well with John Barrowman as one of the judges it was very hard to pay attention to the songs but I did my best... I was not as successful as esctodays live blog

Loveshy

Sang Mr Gorgeous. Wow. They were bad. They were out of tune and the song was mediocre.

The Revelations

Sang It's You. Very Banarama. Again a little out of tune. The judge choose them to go through to the public vote.

Rob McVeigh

Sang Owe It All To You. Not bad, if not my type of song either.

Simona Armstrong

Sang Changes. I was amazed to find that this was my favourite act out of the first four acts. Obviously the gorgeous John Barrowman agreed as she was put through to the public vote. Did I mention he was on the panel?

Andy Abraham

Sang Even If. Forgettable. I will say however his voice is amazing and the song is well done. But I just don't think it's Eurovision material.

Michelle Gayle

Sang Woo (U Make Me). Fun, but untamed. John Barrowman liked it so it can't be all bad. Michelle was put through to the public vote.

So for the public vote we have The Revelations, Simona Armstrong and Michelle Gayle plus Terry Wogan's "wildcard" choice from the losing three acts... Andy Abraham.

Personally I like Simona Armstrong's rather crazy "Changes". It's fun, she's crazy and that's enough for me.

  1. I watched the show too, here in Spain. I think the four acts which have gone through to the public vote are probably the best of a pretty mediocre bunch - all the songs and most of the performers were hardly scintillating. The only one of the six who can sing properly is Andy Abraham and I am glad Wogan used his 'wild-card' to put him through. However Andy's face (his forehead, specifically) is a little strange - he looks a little like one of the 'visitors' from that SF show of a few years back ;) Personally I think the song he was singing was by far the best, catchy and a bit unusual.

You're probably right that Simona Armstrong will go forward; the song and her perfomrance left me cold, but given that Eurovision is so partisan nowadays I daresay she would do as well as any other entry from the UK.

As for John Barrowman, yes he is good-looking, but I always get the heeby-jeebies when I see him; I can't explain it. There have been about three people in my life I have taken an instant dislike to (two were people I knew in real life, the third is a film star) - Barrowman is undoubtedly the fourth. His manner just grates on me for some reason.

  2. I think I know where you coming from on the whole John Barrowman thing. There is something a little off putting about his attitude sometimes. However... that smile acts like some kind of charm on me. Phwoah...
